988 Lifeline for Crisis and Suicide Prevention
On July 16, 2022, “988” will be the new three-digit dialing code connecting people to the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Whether a person is struggling with thoughts of suicide, mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress, you can contact 988 for support. People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. People will be able to text the 988 lifeline number to receive assistance as well. Once a text is sent and received, you will be connected to a crisis counselor will listen to you, work to understand how your problem is affecting you, provide support, and share resources that may be helpful.
