Public Health Alert: New Synthetic Opioid Cychlorphine Linked to Fatal Overdoses

Save Our Families is sharing an important public health alert from the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education regarding an emerging synthetic opioid called N-Propionitrile Chlorphine, also known as Cychlorphine.

According to the alert, Cychlorphine belongs to a newer class of synthetic opioids often referred to as “orphine analogs.” The alert reports that Cychlorphine has been detected in fatal overdose toxicology cases and may be significantly more potent than fentanyl based on laboratory data. The substance has been identified in multiple states and has also appeared alongside other drugs, including fentanyl, oxycodone, cocaine, methamphetamine, xylazine, benzodiazepines, nitazenes, and carfentanil.

Synthetic opioids can cause extreme sedation and slowed or stopped breathing. Naloxone can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and help restore breathing, but more than one dose may be needed in some situations involving potent synthetic opioids. Call 911, administer naloxone if trained, support breathing if trained, place the person on their side, and stay with them until help arrives.

Save Our Families provides free naloxone and community care supplies to help prevent fatal overdoses and protect our neighbors.
