Save Our Families Nonprofit (“SOF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website located at www.saveourfamiliesnonprofit.org (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site, how we use and share it, and the choices available to you. It works alongside our Cookie Policy, which covers cookies and similar tracking technologies in more detail.
This policy applies only to information collected through the Site. It does not cover information SOF collects in the course of directly providing community care, testing, or support services in person or by phone; that information is handled under SOF’s separate program confidentiality and client privacy policies, available upon request.
- Information We Collect
We collect information in two ways: information you give us directly, and information collected automatically when you use the Site.
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
Depending on how you interact with the Site, you may provide us with:
- Contact Us form: your name, email address, and the message you send us.
- Volunteer / Get Involved form: your name, contact information, and the areas you’re interested in helping with.
- Service Request (“How Can We Help”) form: your name, contact information, and a general description of what you’re looking for. This form is intentionally general; see Section 2 below.
- Board of Directors Application: your name, contact information, resume or biography, and any other materials you choose to submit as part of your application.
- Job Applications: your name, contact information, resume or CV, cover letter, and any other materials you submit as part of applying for a position with SOF.
- Email Sign-Up: your email address, collected through our Mailchimp sign-up form.
- Donations and Payments: your name, contact information, and payment details, processed securely by Stripe. See Section 5, “Payment Information.”
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics and the cookies described in our Cookie Policy. This may include your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and how you arrived at the Site.
- A Note on Service Requests
Our “How Can We Help” form is designed to start a conversation, not to collect a clinical or case record. We ask that you avoid including sensitive details, such as specific health conditions, test results, or substance use history, in that form. If your request touches on a sensitive topic, a staff member will follow up with you directly, by phone or another private channel, to discuss specifics.
Any sensitive information you do choose to share through the form is treated with the same discretion as information you share with us in person. It is limited to the staff who need it to respond to your request, and it is not treated as part of your clinical or service record.
- How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your messages, questions, and service requests
- Process and acknowledge donations
- Send the email communications you’ve signed up to receive, and let you unsubscribe at any time
- Evaluate volunteer, board, and job applications
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
- Understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site
- Meet SOF’s legal, accounting, and reporting obligations as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
- How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with outside organizations for their own marketing purposes.
We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the Site, for the purposes described in this policy and our Cookie Policy:
- Stripe, to process donations and payments
- Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), to operate our email sign-up and send communications
- Google Analytics, to understand Site traffic in aggregate
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect SOF’s rights or safety or the safety of others, or in connection with a merger, reorganization, or transfer of SOF’s assets, a step we do not currently anticipate but note here for completeness.
- Payment Information
Donations and payments made through the Site are processed by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor. SOF does not receive, process, or store your full card number. Stripe’s handling of your payment information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site. If you believe a child has provided us with information through the Site, please contact us using the information below so we can address it.
- Data Retention
We keep the information described in this policy for as long as needed to respond to your request, maintain our donor and volunteer records, and meet our legal and accounting obligations, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever applies first. Job and board applications are kept for the period needed to evaluate the application and meet our recordkeeping obligations, after which they are deleted or securely archived.
- Data Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we collect, including by relying on PCI-compliant processors such as Stripe for payment data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
- Your Choices
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message, or by contacting us directly
- Decline to provide optional information on any form; some fields are required to process your request
- Manage cookies and analytics tracking as described in our Cookie Policy
- Contact us to ask what information we have about you, or to request that we correct or delete it; we will respond consistent with applicable law and our recordkeeping obligations
- Your State Privacy Rights
Some state privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, give residents specific rights over their personal information. These laws generally apply to for-profit businesses that meet certain revenue or data-handling thresholds, and SOF, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, does not meet that definition. As a matter of practice, we are still glad to honor a request to tell you what information we have about you or to delete it; contact us using the information below.
- Third-Party Links
The Site may link to third-party websites, such as social media pages or partner organizations. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with information.
- Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or operational reasons. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
- Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise any of the choices described above, please contact us:
